Do away with Region Playoff games?

Should we do away with Region Playoffs? It would make for some interesting matchups.

I think they should do away with them. I like West Virginias set up alot better. I will use their Class AA for example as follows.

1st Round
#16-Roane Co. (5-5) vs. #1-Bluefield (9-0)
#9-Chapmanville (7-3) vs. #8-Keyser (7-3), Sat.
#13-Logan (6-4) vs. #4-Berkeley Springs (8-2), Sat.

Alot of travel time, alot of money spent on gas, hotels, food. Imagine being for example Manassas Park and having to travel to Burton the first week and then travel to say Appy the next week. Thats just asking too much out of kids and really its asking too much out of parents to be making trips like that. Youd have alot of people taking off from work on fridays because theres no way you could make a trip like some of those trips on a saturday morning. I could respect a A/B region and a C/D region with seedings but not what your proposing. The games likely wouldnt even be that good honestly. When most teams have to travel for several hours, they dont fair too well. This gives the home team a dramatic advantage not to mention, how can seeding really be considered fair.

i agree with you both here. i don't like the current format, but i don't like the statewide seeding either. in essence, you have the best teams make it to the playoffs currently. however, teams now get screwed out of the playoffs that deserve to be in.

Unless you win your district, you really haven't shown that you "deserve" to be in the playoffs. As long as the best teams are in the playoffs, it is more than fair. And, as far as that goes, no one can really argue that the best teams get left at home..so really, who cares.

The North Carolina playoffs are like this in a way. They have east and west pairings, similiar to the way you have proposed. The state game is the east champ against the west champ.

That's essentially what the VHSL has at the end too..C&D are West and A&B are East. There's nothing wrong with our playoff system..if anything it lets too many teams in.

I would agree with you there to an extent. Think back to the mid 90's when basically the district championship would come down to Appy/PV and say for example Appy wins the district but both go on to win a State Championships, are you saying that PV didn't deserve to win a State Championship because they didn't win their district. I know that PV/Appy in the 90's brought home multiple championships and some in the same year.

Say if Burton and PV make it to the state game this year and both were to win it, are you saying that PV doesn't deserve a State Championship because they didn't win the district?

I don't like the current set-up but a format like West Virginia's isn't feesible here, the size of our state compared to WVa, travel time there isn't that big of deal as it would be here.

PV has never won a State Championship when they didn't win the district. On more than one occasion they have won D2 titles in years they beat the D1 Champion tho. I think they should put class A together and hopefully force a 5A system with the desparity.
